The Rep stainless steel power bar v2 is a great barbell at a great price.  For $379, it is going to be hard to find a stainless steel barbell at this price.  I ordered this Rep power bar before I really did any research to determine exactly what I wanted for my home gym.  I wanted a barbell that would be good to use in a garage gym, so obviously a stainless bar would be best since they are the most resistant to corrosion and will hold up in the elements.  Even the sleeves on this barbell are stainless steel.  FThis power bar is a really nice. The knurl on the Rep power bar is a little more passive than what I personally like but a lot of people like the more passive knurl.  If you’ve used a Texas Power Bar or a Rogue Ohio Power Bar then the knurl would be a lot more passive than those two bars.  I personally love a deeper, sharper knurl on a barbell.  This passive knurl is still plenty “grippy” for the three major lifts.  You won’t have any problems with this bar slipping on the squat, deadlift or bench press.  But it won’t dig in like the Texas or Ohio Power Bar.  Rep does offer a deep knurl version of this barbell for the exact same price.  This is where I have some regrets.  Since I do like the more aggressive knurl, I wish I had opted for the deep knurl version.  The knurl marks and where the knurl starts and stops is nice and crisp and well defined.  It does have center knurling which is perfect for keeping the barbell on your back when performing squats.  It really is an impressive barbell for the price.

The Rep Power Bar v2 is a 29mm, 20 kg power bar with a 200k tensile strength.  That means the barbell isn’t going to have much whip at all when lifting.  This is what you want in a barbell you squat or bench press with.  Whip is good on a deadlift though, so for that I use a deadlift specific barbell.  But I deadlifted with a power bar for years.

The sleeves on the Rep power bar v2 are very smooth. They don’t have any ribs or texture to them.  So you’ll certainly need a decent set of collars to keep everything nice and tight.  On the Rogue Ohio Power Bar, the sleeves have a ribbed texture and the plates tend to stick a little better.  I can get away with not adding collars when squatting with the Ohio and not have the plates move.  Not so on the Rep barbell.  Not a deal breaker but something to keep in mind. The sleeves themselves on the barbell are tight and have very little play.  They rotate smooth.

This is a great multi use barbell.  I think this is the best barbell for a garage gym because it is a stainless steel barbell that you can use in multiple lifts.  It’s also a great barbell if you’re on a budget.  It’s not the cheapest barbell you can buy but it is a great price for a fully stainless steel barbell.  I’ve used this barbell in my landmine attachment, for squats and for bench pressing.  The barbell has performed well for me.  So far, this barbell has held up very well to the south Arkansas summer heat and very high humidity.  For the last several weeks the humidity has been in the upper 80 to 90% range almost daily.  No signs of corrosion on the barbell to date.

I recommend this barbell if you like a less aggressive knurl.  If you wanted a more aggressive knurl, check out the deep knurl version for the same price from Rep Fitness.
